Pay your water and utility bill online

Updated: 2026-07-08

What the bill covers

The City of Ottumwa bills city utilities together: water, sewer, and in some cases trash. It arrives monthly with the amount due and a due date.

Pay online (fastest)

  1. Go to the city’s payment portal (link below).
  2. Have your account number ready (it’s on your paper bill).
  3. Enter the account number and amount, and pay by card.
  4. Save the receipt you get at the end.

Other ways to pay

  • In person: at City Hall, 105 E Third St, Monday–Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
  • Drop box: many city halls have a box to leave a check after hours. Confirm whether Ottumwa has one.
  • By mail: send a check or money order with your account number written on it.

To avoid a shutoff

  • Pay before your bill’s due date to avoid late fees.
  • If you’re behind, call City Hall (641-683-0600) before it’s due — payment plans may be available.
  • Just moved in? Tell the city to put the service in your name.

The exact amount, fees and deadlines are set by the city. Always check your bill and the official portal.

This information is a general guide. Always confirm your case on the city’s official page.
